The effects of the corona virus continue in our country and around the world. An attempt is made to eliminate the problems in education with the partial opening of schools and the distance education model. After the eighth and twelfth grade began face-to-face education with elementary school students, eyes turned to universities. Although there is no official statement on the opening date of the universities, Health Minister Fahrettin Koca provided some information on the transition from universities to face-to-face education. Here are Minister Koca’s statements on universities …
EXPLANATION OF THE MINISTER KOCA TO THE PRESENTIAL EDUCATION IN THE UNIVERSITIES
Health Minister Fahrettin Koca took part in a live broadcast on a private channel and answered a question about opening universities.
Minister Koca: We are trying to see the direction of the universities, especially with the opening of MEB schools in this period. Looking at the development of the epidemic and infection rates in that age group relative to open classes in the coming weeks, a decision or suggestion will be made accordingly. Of course, schools will open in the next period, but it will be gradual depending on the course of this pandemic.
WHEN WILL THE UNIVERSITIES OPEN?
The Council for Higher Education (YÖK) asked universities to plan their education calendars to start after October 1, 2020, but following the recommendation of the Ministry of Health, education is expected to take place online in all the universities. In the academic calendar of most universities, the starting date of the courses is considered October.
Additionally, nearly all 127 state universities announced that they will continue with the distance education model in the fall semester.
