The accident occurred near the Akçay Yeni Mahalle crossing in the Edremit district around 20:30. The truck license plate 10 N 3867 under the direction of Recep Kadir T. from the direction of Çanakkale to Edremite crashed into the car with 34 license plate LL 3316 driven by Taner Y. Leaving the driver in control with the severity of the crash, the car fell into the garden of a house on the road. The truck driver, Recep Kadir T., who was scrapped in the accident, and an unidentified person died at the scene. The driver of the car Taner Y. and Nazmi G. and Tevhide A. in the truck were seriously injured. The wounded were taken to Edremit hospitals by medical teams who came to the scene with notice and were treated.
After the accident, the Çanakkale-İzmir highway was closed to traffic for a time. After the on-site investigation, the bodies of two people who lost their lives were transferred to the morgue of the Edremit Public Hospital. After the truck and car were removed from the crash site with the help of the tow truck, the road was again opened to traffic.
Police launched an investigation into the accident.
