Varank: Our economic policy will continue without slowing down

Industry and Technology Minister Mustafa Varank said: “Under the leadership of our President, our determined, results-oriented and stability-focused economic policies will continue unabated. “We will make the most of the opportunities that the pandemic provides in global production and investment.”

The Minister of Industry and Technology, Mustafa Varank, and the Minister of Commerce, Ruhsar Pekcan, attended the inauguration of the “SAHA EXPO Virtual Fair” through the videoconference method.

In addition to two ministers, İsmail Demir, president of defense industry and Haluk Bayraktar, president of SAHA Istanbul, were also present at the program.

Speaking here, Minister Varank said that while there were no Turkish companies among the top 100 companies in the world’s defense industry with the highest turnover, this year 7 companies were included in the list.

Noting that the number of employees in the defense industry increased from 30,000 to 73,000, Minister Varank said: “Although we were able to export 330 million dollars in total, we reached an export capacity of more than 3 billion dollars. . We are talking about a sector with an approximate turnover of 11 billion dollars. However, R&D expenses in the sector are increasing day by day. The amount of expenditure incurred only in technopark companies and R&D centers has exceeded 12 billion lira. 5 of the top 10 companies that spend the most on R&D in our country operate in the defense industry ”.

‘THE LOCALITY RATE REACHED 70 PERCENT’

Minister Varank said that they took measures to support the development of the sector as a ministry and said: “In the last 8 years, we have awarded incentive certificates to 421 projects with a total investment of TL 13 billion in the field of defense. Thanks to these projects, more than 11 thousand jobs were created. We ensure that 48 R&D and design centers in the sector benefit from various tax exemptions and premium grants. The localization rate in our defense industry, which was 20 percent in the 2000s, has reached 70 percent today. “100% localization is essential for critical components for the future of the sector and total independence.”

‘WE WILL SEIZE PANDEM OPPORTUNITIES IN THE BEST WAY’

Varank ministers, together with the industrialization executive Komitesi’yl, Turkey will plan policies to further develop the industry and technology manufacturers saying they had a level of decision-making in life, he said:

“We will make the decisions that will elevate our industry and prepare our country for the future in this committee together with the relevant Ministries. In our investment incentive system, we have made important regulations in the last year.
