While reactions to the US decision to lift the arms embargo against the Greek Cypriot administration 33 years later continued, another statement came from the US.
“It was a decision we’ve been working on for a long time. We want everyone to reduce tension in the region,” Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said.
“We know that this step came at a time of high tension in the eastern Mediterranean, but we believe it was the right decision,” Pompeo said.
Mike Pompeo stated that US President Donald Trump continues to meet with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and calls on both sides to reduce tensions and establish a diplomatic dialogue.
The US Secretary of State said: “We need negotiations on a diplomatic solution to this problem. Increasing military mobility in the region is not the right step. It only leads to negative consequences.”
