Turkish folk music artist Ahmet Günday passed away

Turkish folk music teacher and TRT artist Ahmet Günday passed away at the age of 77 at a hospital in Izmir, where he had been treated for liver disease.

The master artist will be seen off on his last trip with a ceremony to be held on Friday in the Fethiye district of his hometown, Muğla.

Who is Ahmet Günday?

The musician, academic and researcher Ahmet Günday was born in 1944 in Fethiye. Günday graduated from the Department of Music at the Buca Faculty of Education and worked as a professor at the Turkish State Conservatory of Music at Ege University.

He retired as a Folk Music Artist from Izmir Radio, where he entered in 1966, and continued his musical studies in the following years. Ahmet Günday, the compiler and source of many local folk songs that entered the TRT repertoires, was married with two children.

Günday, which is a close compilation of doksan, raised hundreds of students throughout his artistic life. In addition to his cassettes and vinyl, he left the written works “Baglama Metodu”, “Türküler ve Öyküleri” and “Yesterday to Today Fethiye”.
