According to the news that the American Daily Beast news site relies on some high-level US officials who do not want to be named, Trump gave “great credit” to related diplomats, especially Pompeo, and his close advisers on Iran.
In the report, it was claimed that Trump, who has been focusing on the election results for the past few weeks, has not been very interested in foreign policy issues and left the Iran question entirely to Pompeo.
Donald Trump authorized Pompeo to increase pressure on Iran “as long as World War III does not break out,” according to two senior officials who reportedly witnessed Trump’s talks with Pompeo.
According to the report, the Trump administration is expected to announce new economic sanctions against Iran and take measures that will strain Iran’s economy before handing over the presidency to Joe Biden, who won the elections on January 20.
The report also alleged that there may have been cooperation between Israel and US intelligence on the assassination of Iranian scientist Muhsin Fahrizade.
Fahrizade, one of the key figures in the Iranian nuclear program, was killed on Friday, November 27, in an armed attack on his vehicle in the Abserd region of Tehran province.
In his presentation on Iran’s nuclear program in April 2018, Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu specifically mentioned the name of Fahrizade, known as the architect of the program.
According to the Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronot, Netanyahu pointed out that Israel played a role in Fahrizade’s assassination at a press conference on the issue.
Iran, on the other hand, made statements implying that it will wait for the Biden administration to come to power rather than immediately respond.
