At the White House the agreements on “normalization of relations” reached between Israel, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Bahrain were signed.
United Arab Emirates Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Zayed al Nahyan, Bahrain Foreign Minister Abdullatif al Zayani, and Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu attended the ceremony held at the White House and organized by the president of the United States, Donald Trump.
‘New countries will participate’
Speaking to reporters before the ceremony, Trump said that five or six more countries could participate in agreements to normalize relations with Israel, and that some of these agreements could be finalized before the US presidential elections on November 3.
Thanking the leaders who attended the ceremony, Trump said: “Today we are here to change the course of history. After years of division and conflict, we are at the dawn of the new Middle East.”
Trump added that agreements between Israel, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates were reached in just 1 month.
Stating that other countries will also sign peace agreements with Israel, Trump said: “Israel, the UAE and Bahrain will appoint mutual ambassadors, and a wide range of sectors, from tourism to trade, from health to security, will begin to establish strong collaborations and partnerships. These countries are friends. “
“The transmission of the lies that Jews and Arabs are enemies and that Masjid al-Aqsa is under attack from generation to generation has led to the spread of terrorism and violence in the region and around the world,” Trump said, arguing that the agreements reached saved the peoples of the region from the failed approaches of the past.
Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu also described the normalization agreement between the three countries as “a historic turning point.”
The foreign ministers of the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain also thanked Trump for the deal.
UAE Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Zayed al Nahyan said: “This agreement will allow us to continue to support the Palestinian people and realize their hopes of establishing an independent state in a stable and peaceful region.”
After the leaders’ speeches, the text of the agreement between countries was signed in 3 languages: English, Hebrew and Arabic.
The ‘normalization’ process
The normalization process between the United Arab Emirates and Israel began with the agreement reached on August 13, mediated by the President of the United States, Donald Trump.
Trump has announced that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Zayed of the United Arab Emirates have reached an agreement to fully normalize bilateral relations. It was noted that under the agreement, Israel suspended its plan to annex some regions of the West Bank.
The agreement sparked controversy in the Arab world, particularly in the context of the Palestinian question. The leader of the Palestinian administration, Mahmoud Abbas, stated that they rejected and strongly condemned the agreement.
President Racep Tayyip Erdogan said: “The step taken by Palestine is not an ingestible development” and affirmed that they can suspend relations with Abu Dhabi.
