Theofilos Kantzoglu, head of the Kozana Veterinary Services Directorate, explained that all samples taken from the 8 live and dead minks at the Kaloneri farm tested positive when coronavirus was found in workers working on farms in the region.
Stating that recently there has been an increase in the mortality rate in minkes, and Kovid-19 symptoms such as weakness, loss of appetite and shortness of breath have been observed in many minkes, Kantzoglu said that it was decided to destroy 2,500 minks as a measure of caution.
Kantzoglu stated that intensive tests were also carried out on workers and minke working on approximately 90 mink farms in the Kozana and Kesriye (Kastoria) regions.
National Public Health officials launched an investigation after Kovid-19 was found in 10 workers working on the farm affiliated with the Voyu municipality in the Kastoria region the day before and intense cases of mink death were observed.
It is estimated that there are approximately 1 million mink on the Kastoria and Kozana farms.
