In Izmir, 18 people allegedly poisoned by fake drinks came to the city’s hospitals on October 9. In the scope of the investigation, an operation was carried out in five workplaces, a warehouse and a residence, and 10 suspects were arrested. Six of those admitted to the hospital died yesterday.


Five more died

Necdet Kanatlıer, 67, and Nihat Karaoğlan, 68, who were admitted to hospital on suspicion of methyl alcohol poisoning, died at the Atatürk Research and Training Hospital of İzmir Katip Çelebi University (İKÇÜ).

İlhami Kalfa at Buca Seyfi Demirsoy State Hospital; Hüseyin Yılmaz died at the Dokuz Eylül University Research and Application Hospital and Mehmet Celalettin Sezer, 68, died at the Bergama State Hospital.

The bodies of the deceased were taken to the Izmir Institute of Forensic Medicine for autopsy.

Four more people were hospitalized

Meanwhile, it became known that three people applied to enter the İzmir Bozyaka University of Health Sciences University Research and Training Hospital and one more person to the İKÇÜ Atatürk Training and Research Hospital with suspected methyl alcohol poisoning. Four people’s treatments were claimed to continue in intensive care.
