In a written statement made by the Regional Board for the Conservation of Cultural Heritage of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, it was recalled that the Basilica Cistern is registered as the first group of immovable cultural property and is included in the List of World Cultural Heritage.
According to the statement, which has been decided by the Board of Conservation, whatever the problem that has come to them so far with respect to the Basilica Cistern, it was indicated that the projects for the recognition, restitution and restoration of the cistern were eligible in 2012. The statement included the following information:

We ask the Scientific Advisory Committee for the appropriate opinion of the Scientific Advisory Committee, which will be formed in almost all the decisions we make, due to the importance of the cistern as a cultural asset. that the cistern must be strengthened urgently, but the Regional Board of Conservation did not rule on the matter. The request presented to our Board of Directors in the last week of October was put on the Board’s agenda almost a month later. Instead, it was decided that we examine it on the spot. ”
In the statement, in which it was noted that no negative decision was made after the Board’s on-site inspection on December 9, 2020, the static report presented by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality was evaluated in terms of structural engineering, and the planned application must be approved by experts in restoration, architecture, materials science and protection before any application. It was indicated that the presentation of reinforcement projects prepared by experts was requested.
