The joint letter published in the Washington Post newspaper was signed by former United States Defense Ministers Ashton Carter, Dick Cheney, William Cohen, Mark Esper, Robert Gates, Chuck Hagel, James Mattis, Leon Panetta, William Perry and Donald Rumsfeld.
In the letter, the former ministers warned that the controversial results of the presidential elections held on November 3 do not refer to the position of the military, stating that “otherwise, national security would be in danger.”
In the letter, “We vow to protect the Constitution against internal and external enemies. Our oath is not against a person or a party.” Using their statements, the ministers drew attention to the importance of peaceful return.
