In early November, the government decided to cull 15 million minks. After 2.85 million minks were killed, the slaughter was stopped, but the political storm created by the incident had not abated. The Agriculture Minister resigned and Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen had to cry on a mink farm.

The Jutland region, particularly in northern Denmark, became the main source of concern as the government admitted that some minkes were improperly euthanized and buried. The rotten mink dead are concerned about affecting the water sources near the area. In what the Danish press calls ‘Zombivizon’, minkes that were not buried deep enough were seen to surface.
Saying that he has been in favor of burning the mink from day one, the new Agriculture Minister Prehn said that whatever happened to them, he was in a hurry and that they would not make quick decisions.

The Danish Health Ministry said in a statement last week that the virus, which is believed to have mutated into minkes, has not been detected since September 15 and “most likely disappeared.”
Subsequently, Prime Minister Frederiksen admitted that the government had made this decision, exceeding its powers, by stopping the slaughter order.

Denmark is one of the largest fur producers in the world, with an annual export of one billion dollars. The slaughter of millions of minks shook the industry to the ground. Approximately 6 thousand people work in the mink fur industry in the country. This is why many Danish politicians are seeking the resignation of the prime minister.
Prime Minister Frederiksen, who visited an empty mink farm on Thursday, had emotional moments when he saw the impact of the decision. This sentimentality also referred to mink farmers, who would face financial difficulties: “The mink farmers’ life’s work was shattered in a very short time. It is a very emotional situation for them and … I feel it, also for me ”.
