Mahir Polat, Under Secretary General of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM), AKP deputy in Istanbul, Ahmet Hamdi Çamlı, who was not included in the original inscription by changing the content of the historical inscription of the source I. He pleaded for adding his father’s name, saying: “With the restitution, a similar fountain was restored.”
“WE HAVE DONE IT FOR OUR FATHER”
Ahmet Hamdi Çamlı responded to the criticism as follows:
* We had it built for the sake of our father and for the work of the ancestors built by Mahmut I to keep it standing. There are examples of similar history.
* There are works that have been lost centuries ago and have been rebuilt, in which the name of the person who made it is rewritten.
* We only write the name of the pilgrim father because it was made in 2018, when he was absent, only because the last person reads a fatiha. We did it for our benefit.
* After we died, we did it out of prayer and mercy.
CALLED IMAMOGLU AND SAID ‘Excuse me’
Speaking to IMM President Ekrem İmamoğlu, Çamlı said, “After you die, you will come after you and do things that will remember you forever.”
Stating that he was calling İmamoğlu, Çamlı said: “The men shared false, false and defamatory information about me. You also mean. I said apologize. Deputy of this city, we are at the constant service of our nation. You should be like that too. “Do not deal with political attractions, know the value of your presidency, do your service,” he said.

Mahir Polat shared new information and documents about the source with the public. Polat explained that the land of the fountain of Sultan Mahmud I’s foundation was purchased by the Çamlı family in 1978, and that the fountain was removed in 1980 and an apartment was built in its place.
He said the Çamlı family also rebuilt the fountain by changing the inscription on the mosque wall. The original location of the fountain was seen in the photos shared by Polat.

Polat also shared documents related to this. Consequently, the Ministry of Culture broadcasts the decision in 1977 that it was not appropriate to move the 1st Mahmut Fountain, located at Fatih Hasan Halife Mahallesi, Sarıgüzel Caddesi map 437, block 2019, plot 11, from its own plot to another location.
In the petition sent by Ahmet Zeki Çamlı to the Ministry of Culture in 1981, he claimed that the fountain was dismantled with the decision of the board, that he was waiting to be shown a place to reinstall the fountain, that the garden wall of the İskenderpaşa Mosque was suitable for this process and said: I think the coat will be much more appropriate, ‘he conveys his opinion.
