The European Union (EU) countries announced that they plan to ban flights to the UK due to the mutation of the corona virus.
The Dutch and Belgian government suspended flights from Great Britain to prevent the mutation from spreading. Belgium also announced that train services from England were canceled.
The World Health Organization announced that the same mutation was detected in the Netherlands, Denmark and Australia.
FLIGHTS STOPPED
Germany and the European Union stopped all reciprocal flights with the UK due to the new virus identified as the mutated form of Covid-19 in the UK and identified as Virus-Variant VUI 2020/12/01.
German Chancellor Merkel had urgent phone calls with leaders of all EU member states. Flights between Germany and England stopped at 00:00 last night. The German Transport Minister issued a statement saying: “This flight ban was necessary to prevent the mutated Covid-19 virus from reaching Germany.”
ALL THE FLIGHTS STOPPED AT NIGHT
It is not known how the new virus spreads 70 percent faster and is resistant to the vaccine. Also, it is not yet clear if it will increase deaths. Prime Minister Merkel spoke to French President Macron on the issue and called for a similar practice for the entire EU. In addition to France, the Netherlands, Belgium, Austria and Italy decided to ban the flights from Sunday night.
The decisions taken for Germany and for the whole EU, although it is not clear at the moment, are the following;
– All reciprocal flights with England were stopped from midnight on Sunday until January 6.
– Germans staying in England will only arrive on German Airlines planes. Airplanes coming from England will not return. For this reason, British Airways will not be used.
– There is no prohibition for aircraft personnel carrying passengers back during the period in which they take citizens who are in the two countries mutually. But they will not fly again.
– Only mail, air freight and empty flights will be free.
– Health professionals may fly in mandatory situations related to health personnel and public health.
Germany made this decision in accordance with article 21 of EU regulation 1008/2008. This article was based on the provision that member states could impose restrictions on other member states, stop traffic and reciprocal traffic in emergencies stemming from unforeseen and unavoidable emergencies.
SEEN IN THE NETHERLANDS, WAITING FOR SWITZERLAND
EU heads of state are currently discussing total isolation in other places linked to Britain. Switzerland has yet to make a decision and stated that it is watching the situation closely. Swiss Ministry of Health, “We still do not know the new virus and its dangers. We do not know the reaction to the vaccine and the effect of the vaccine against it. We have very little data, “he explained.
In the Netherlands, the UK mutated virus was seen in one case in the Netherlands in early December. It has been announced that there is still no evidence on this new type of virus in Germany and Switzerland.
THE BIONTECH VACCINE MAY NOT WORK
The new virus has an unusually large number of genetic changes, especially in the dominant protein for which the vaccine was developed. In other words, the virus can change the proteins that enter cells and render the vaccine ineffective. The BioNTech / Pfizer vaccine, which was launched in the UK, also created immunity against this protein. There is concern that the vaccine against the new crown mutation will not work.
Flights to South Africa, where this new type of virus was found, began to stop.
On the other hand, Richard Neher, a biotechnologist at the University of Basel, speaking to Der Spiegel Magazine, said: “The Virgo protein is a very large protein and it attacks the human immune system from many points. I don’t think that a single type of mutation can completely disable the new vaccine-defined protection. But it is too early to say anything for now. However, such a mutated virus may not be recognized and the body may not react to the vaccine. “I don’t think the virus will mutate more in this way in the next few years.”
FRANCE WILL COOPERATE WITH THE EU
In French press news, it was claimed that the French government was considering stopping flights to England and the government assessed cooperation with the EU.
DECISION OF THE UNITED KINGDOM OF ITALY
The Italian Minister of Health, Roberto Speranza, affirmed that after the announcement that a new type of Covid-19 was discovered in the United Kingdom, which was transmitting more quickly, they signed a decree suspending air transport with this country until 6 January.
JOHNSON: 70 PERCENT MORE INFECTIOUS
In his speech to parliament yesterday, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson stated that the new corona virus mutation detected earlier this week caused the virus to spread faster than expected.
Johnson claimed that the new mutation detected was 70 percent more contagious than the original version of the virus and said the government should take action.
It was decided to worsen the restrictions imposed due to the rapid increase in cases and casualties in England.
