In a written statement made by the Lebanese army, it was indicated that works continue in the port of Beirut, where 2,750 tons of ammonium nitrate exploded last month.
Noting that a container was searched at the entrance gate number 9 of the Port of Beirut at the request of customs officials, the statement said that “4 tons of 350 kilograms of ammonium nitrate were found in the container.” the information was given.
In the statement, it was stated that military units in the port of Beirut began work on the ammonium nitrate in question.
On the other hand, according to local media reports, they acted upon allegations that a disaster similar to the one that occurred in the Port of Beirut could also occur at the Rafic Hariri International Airport in the south of the capital.
After the accusations came to light, President Michel Avn ordered the Minister of Public Affairs and Transport, Michel Neccar, to review the maintenance of all units, especially the facilities where aircraft are refueled at the only airport in the country.
