The United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Michigan State Police thwarted anti-government extremists’ plan to start a civil war by kidnapping Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer.
At least 6 people were arrested on federal charges stemming from the kidnapping conspiracy. The extremist group was crushed when a member of the group agreed to become an FBI informant, concerned that the extremists were also planning to kill police officers.

The group is made up of extremists who want to create a new self-sufficient society. It became known that the plans they made to start a civil war in the US would begin with the murder of law enforcement officers.
The FBI stated that the group plans to attack the State Capitol building in Michigan and kidnap state officials, including Governor Whitmer. Claiming that the conspirators wanted to kidnap Whitmer from his vacation home, the FBI announced that they planned to try Governor Whitmer at an unknown location before the November 3 election.

In a statement about the incident, Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel said 7 members of the “Wolverine Watchmen” militia group contacted by extremists were arrested.
The attorney general explained that they were prevented from violating state laws, conspiring to kidnap Governor Whitmer, planning an attack on the state administration building, and attempting to start a civil war.
State Police Chief Joe Gasper said: “The nature of this case is unprecedented. It gives us a very vivid warning. “The forces of order must remain together even if we are fighting at one point, possibly even against separatism and throughout the country,” he said.

In the United States, a group against Covid-19 restrictions raided the Michigan State Assembly building, where Governor Whitmer was serving, in May, and heavily armed protesters attempted to enter Whitmer’s room, who wanted to extend the emergency period.
