Experts are working to find the vaccine against the coronavirus on the one hand, and on the other hand, they are investigating the factors that prevent the virus and reduce the possibility of transmission.

In a new study by Nanchang University in China, it was announced that wearing glasses on a daily basis can reduce the risk of contracting a new type of corona virus (Covid-19). The scientists found that those who wore glasses were diagnosed with Covid-19 less than the general population.
The researchers explained that their findings also provide more evidence for why healthcare workers should wear eye protection.
For the study, published in JAMA Ophthalmology, the team examined 276 patients, 30 of whom were diagnosed with Covid-19 between January 27 and March 13. A total of 16 patients, all of them farsighted, were stated to wear glasses for more than eight hours a day, with a rate of 5.8 percent overall.
“People who wear glasses for a long time are 5.4 times less likely to get the virus”
However, the researchers also collected studies conducted 10 to 20 years ago in Hubey State with students aged 7-22 to provide more general population data. It was estimated that 31.5 percent of these young and middle-aged people today wear glasses due to myopic vision defects. The researchers then calculated that the rate of people who wear glasses were diagnosed with the corona virus is 5.4 times lower than others.
The study authors wrote: “Our main finding was that Covid-19 patients who wear glasses for a long time every day are relatively rare, which may be preliminary evidence that everyday glasses wearers are less susceptible to the new type of corona virus. “
The coronavirus also enters the body through the eyes.
The researchers reported that the glasses “prevent or discourage users from touching their eyes, thus preventing the virus from transferring from the hands to the eyes.”
Previous research has revealed that the eyes produce ACE-2 enzymes that allow the virus to adhere to the body, and scientists have announced that the corona virus is not only found on the surface of the eye, but also in tears.
The study authors said: “The eyes are considered an important channel through which the new type of coronavirus enters the human body. For everyday eyeglass wearers who often wear eyeglasses in social settings, this can become a protective factor, reduce the risk of virus contamination in the eyes, and keep long-term everyday eyeglass wearers from becoming infected with Covid- 19.
