Students who reacted to the appointment of the rector Melih Bulu of Boğaziçi University were attacked with the statements of President Erdoğan of the AKP. With the text they published with the title “Our open letter to the twelfth president, who has targeted us through intermediate channels for days,” the students responded to Erdogan’s statements: “If they have a heart, the president must also resign” and He listed the reasons and demands for his actions.
Responding to Cumhuriyet.com.tr’s questions regarding the letter, which recalled “You are not the sultan, we are not our subjects”, the students stated that they would not allow the Bosphorus to be taken under control by describing the establishment of the Faculties of Communication and Law as an attack on the free and autonomous academic environment with the presidential decree brought.
In his letter, even though there was a significant turning point in Turkey, he stressed that Erdogan’s resignation. Why do you think Erdogan does not resign?
The government has long been governed with an Islamist political understanding, and the President of the Republic, a student at Boğaziçi University, had this to say:
“We are heading to be an undemocratic country with manipulation, media and judicial bias, and separatist policies, and it is always clear who has power in this country. Taking into account the background of why Erdogan did not resign, it is clear … The seats and powers that do not want to lose … Employers, open faculties to conquer consolidated universities, homophobic and sexist practices imposed on universities such as’ closing BÜLGBTI + ‘, trying to undermine the autonomy of universities. All of these are panic-filled steps to suppress the voices of those who might oppose this political power and understanding. At this point we have nothing to do with the president, because all these aggressive attacks show us how scared our resistance is. Regardless of the scale of the attacks against our university and all universities, our resistance will continue. We will not bow to any injustice, we will not give up. “
“AWARE OF BEING ALONE”
“First of all, when the shield of impunity that protects him is gone, he hesitates to stand trial for many events he has committed,” said another Boğaziçili, “Although he managed to save himself by taking part in the chaotic environments he created, he is now aware the severity and isolation of the situation. Therefore, it tries to consolidate its power by becoming more aggressive and creating polarizations. Of course, a very important factor here is that during his government, with rents and loyalty systems, his supporters reached various state cadres, while the purchasing power of the people decreased, the wealthy class emerged that received a few salaries and naturally not it does. I want to lose it The reason why they want a generation that does not question, that does not investigate, that does not produce and that cannot make a sound and that targets us is of course the fear of not staying in power.
SOURCE NOT SPECIFIED
The students, who asked how the TÜRGEV meeting request process works and how this situation was resolved among the students, explained the following:
“We received this news from a student from Boğaziçi who stated that he was contacted by TÜRGEV. It was presented to us as unspecified news. After the invitation stated that “students” should go and the invitation was not an official invitation, we decided that this offer was too risky and issued a statement that no students should be present. Furthermore, accepting this invitation would make us look like we are demanding a commitment. We have clearly expressed our demands from the beginning of our resistance, we did not have a commitment target and we do not have one. “
Another Boğaziçi University on the subject said: “We already understood the purpose of TÜRGEV’s requests to meet with us. Erdogan told the media about us: “What am I going to tell you? A group of provocateurs ”and labeling us terrorists, TÜRGEV, whom he clearly represents, tried to reach us. As students, we did not welcome the meeting with TÜRGEV, because if such a meeting had been held, our words would be distorted by the pro-media who did not publish our ongoing resistance for a month and the media would try to create a perception. against us. We as students do not allow this. We continue our peaceful protests and we will. We invite those who want to meet with us, as we have stated in our open letter, to meet without intermediaries, deception and open to all “
THE RECORDS WILL CONTINUE UNTIL THE COMPLAINT
Will the problem for students be solved if Trustee-Chancellor Bulu resigns or if the Chancellor-elect takes over in place of a name appointed by Erdogan? A student from Boğaziçi gave the following answer to the question:
“If this happens, we will show everyone that we have achieved something great, this can be called the main purpose of our action. We also believe this will happen, but our number one priority right now is to release the arrests and arrests made at the independent art exhibition and Kadıköy protest. It would be more correct to say our problems, not our problems, because as we continue to resist, more aggressive movements come, naturally, our problems grow as they grow, but we will continue not looking down and resisting. The trustees will leave, we will stay. “
Another student from Boğaziçi, who claimed that the protests will not end before Melih Bulu and all the trustees of other universities leave, said: “This problem is not only from Boğaziçi University, but it has had to face anti-democratic obstacles, top-down decisions and various irregularities in all areas of life; “It is a problem for everyone in a country that lacks freedom of opinion and expression, who have not been given a space or opportunity to speak.
“THE GOAL IS TO CREATE A ZOMBIE UNIVERSITY”
Responding to the question about the opening of the Faculties of Communication and Law with the presidential decree issued at midnight, the student from Boğaziçi said: “As we have said from the beginning, the appointment of Bulu is“ legal ”but not legitimate. Now, as we call it, he comes to the trustee’s building and sits up into the night, tells lies by connecting to live broadcasts from his seat. It has no legitimacy in our eyes. You can’t find assistants or consultants, and our academics refuse. The president also opened trusteeship schools in defiance of our school’s traditions. The purpose of this decision is to take over our school from within, to turn us into a zombie university alienating us from our roots and traditions. Of course, Bulu will be appointed as a consultant and assistant from among the academics who have recruited for these faculties. We know very well that this decree never has good purposes and what was issued as a reaction. “We will not allow our school to be evacuated and turned into a zombie university.”
BECAUSE NOBODY AGREED TO WORK WITH BULU …
Another student from Boğaziçi said: “We learned that Trustee Melih Bulu was unable to find an academic staff within the components of the university who sympathized with him and agreed to work with him, and again with a midnight decree, the Presidency appointed a trustee faculty for our school. We are against the end of this palatial support from Kayyum Melih Bulu. We will not allow the 158-year-old culture and academic values of our school to be harmed by the appointment of patrons, rectors and faculties by midnight decrees and the control of our free and autonomous academic environment.
