It was announced that fire was opened in the center of the city of Vienna, Austria’s capital, and there were injuries in the incident.
Austrian Interior Minister Karl Nehammer described the incident as a “terrorist attack” and said it is still going on.
“We believe there was more than one perpetrator in the incident, injured and possibly killed,” Nehammer told ORF TV.
Nehammer stated that the incident is still ongoing and a large-scale operation has started.
Austrian officials asked the public to stay out of their homes and not take to the streets.
The Vienna Police Department announced that all public transport flights to the city center, which is called the first Vienna, have been stopped.
Austrian press reports reported that the first shots came from the vicinity of a synagogue in the Scwedenplatz area.
The Austrian Interior Ministry announced that one attacker was captured and another was killed, while the national news agency APA reported that a police officer was seriously injured.
Oskar Deutsch, president of the Austrian Jewish Community, said in a statement on Twitter that it is not yet clear whether the fire was targeting the region’s synagogue or nearby offices.
Deutsch announced that the synagogue was closed at the time of the attack.

Speaking to the BBC, a Turkish university student, a citizen of Turkey, told police that they inserted themselves into the Hyatt hotel in the city center:
“We were sitting in a cafe near the center. Some police cars passed by. After a while, a police officer told us to go inside. This cafe was the cage of the Hyatt Hotel. We went in, we were waiting in their lobby. I went to the second floor talking to the police, I’m on the floor where the rooms are. No information is given. We were asked to share photos and videos. “
