The Governor of Beirut, Mervan Abbud, accompanied the Chilean team, which began search and rescue activities in the Cimmeyze and Mar Mihayil regions, the most damaged by the explosion of 2,750 tons of ammonium nitrate in the port of Beirut.
Governor Abbud said in a statement to the press that they continue to receive support from abroad because they do not have the means to detect living or non-living bodies beneath the wreck.
Claiming that the newly arrived team from Chile has trained dogs and advanced devices, Abbud claimed that the trained dog smelled like the rubble of a building in the Mar Mihayil region.
Given this, Abbud said that as a result of ongoing studies with the scanning device, it was concluded that there were one or two bodies under the remains, and even one of them could be alive, and that search and rescue efforts continue. initiated in the region.
The Lebanese are following the work with interest in the hope that one person will be removed alive from the wreckage 30 days after the explosion.
THE NUMBER OF DEAD INCREASES TO 191
Meanwhile, the official Lebanese news agency NNA reported that the number of people who lost their lives in the big explosion in the port of Beirut rose to 191, in its report based on the Ministry of Health.
The report indicated that the victims of the blast were citizens of Syria, Bangladesh, the Philippines, Palestine, France and Egypt, in addition to Lebanon.
On August 4 in the Port of Beirut a fire broke out in warehouse number 12, where explosives were found, and then a very powerful explosion occurred that shook the entire city.
President Mişen Avn said the explosion was caused by 2,750 tons of ammonium nitrate stored in a warehouse at the port for 6 years.
