It has been announced that negotiations between Saudi Arabia and Qatar to normalize relations under the mediation of Kuwait and the United States have advanced and the agreement could be reached in the near future.

Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Sheikh Ahmed Nasser al Sabah told Kuwait TV: “Recently, constructive talks have been held, in which all parties expressed their desire to achieve stability with the Gulf and Arab unity, to reach a final agreement that ensures the realization of lasting solidarity “.

The Sabah also praised the recent efforts of US President Donald Trump’s special envoy for the Middle East, Jared Kushner.

Kushner went to Saudi Arabia first and then to Qatar this week.

A source close to the matter told the Reuters news agency that all parties agreed to continue negotiations and that this is a very important step.

Qatari Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Sani, in a message he shared on Twitter, described Kuwait’s declaration as a “necessary step” towards resolving the dispute.

Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan al Saud stated that, thanks to strong support from Kuwait and Trump, significant progress has been made in the talks in recent days.

Speaking at an event he attended in Rome, Prince Faisal said: “We hope that this progress reaches the final agreement that is now possible, and I am somewhat optimistic about reaching an agreement among all the nations involved in this conflict.”

Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain accused Qatar of “supporting terrorism and pursuing policies aimed at destabilizing the region” in June 2017.

These four countries presented a list of demands of 13 points to Qatar, and after its rejection, both began to embargo and cut diplomatic relations.

Among the demands presented are the closure of the Turkish military base in Qatar, the suspension of the broadcast of the media outlet Al Jazeera, the weakening of relations with Iran and the end of support for the Houthi rebels in Yemen.
