President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, in his speech at the Opening Ceremony of the Fifth Section of the Northern Marmara Highway, which was attended by a live connection from the Vahdettin Mansion, began his speech by wishing that the Gebze-Izmit section of the North Marmara Highway is beneficial.
Expressing that the North Marmara Highway is a 400-kilometer long project that starts from the furthest point in the west of Istanbul, runs through the city from the beginning to Kocaeli and Sakarya, Erdogan said that they have opened parts of the road, whose construction is completed, gradually since 2016.
Recalling that they finally held the opening ceremony of the Kınalı-Çatalca section in March, Erdoğan declared that this project is one of the most important routes with a length of more than 57 kilometers, along with the connecting roads between Gebze and İzmit.
Expressing that even this section is a proud piece with its viaducts, tunnels, bridges, crossings, overpasses and underpasses, Erdoğan said:
For example, Tunnel T2 on the route has the title of the longest road tunnel in our country with a distance of 4,200 meters. As is known, the Northern Marmara Highway was built in the region where the traffic of people and vehicles is most traveled. Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge, which is part of this road to relieve Bosphorus traffic. The Istanbul-Izmir Highway, together with the Osmangazi Bridge, is another important work that we put into service in the region, if you look closely, the road is 2 by 4, that is, four lanes, four improvements. I always say that the road is civilization. You cannot speak of being civilized if you are a country, but if you have roads, viaducts and tunnels in this way, no one will be able to easily catch you in the race of civilization. Hopefully when we complete the Kınalı-Tekirdağ-Çanakkale-Balıkesir project, which includes the 1915 Çanakkale Bridge, we will see Marmara and the west. We will surround Anatolia with a network of roads. ”
“THE SECTION OPEN TO SERVICE WILL ALSO REDUCE THE LOAD ON THE TEM ROAD AND THE D100 ROAD”
President Erdogan said: “The Gebze-Izmit section, which we have opened today, will also reduce the load on the TEM highway and the D100 highway. Of course, this also means that the most congested section of the Istanbul-Ankara route will be alleviated. Thus, vehicle traffic that reaches tens of kilometers in length, especially during vacations, summer vacations and breaks, will go down in history. ”He spoke.
Stating that the annual contribution of this route to the country will reach 270 million lire over time, 317 million lire of fuel oil and 8 million lire of emissions reduction, Erdogan continued his speech as follows:
“I congratulate all of our ministry, our institutions, contractors, engineers and workers who contributed to bring this work to our nation. The service trip to the country and the nation is not the last stop, it is a case that always needs to increase the emotion and energy that should raise the bar as we move forward. Road, electricity, drinking water. With infrastructure services such as sewage, architectural works are also indicators of civilization, elements of civilization such as education, health and culture rise above this infrastructure.
“THEY TRY TO PREVENT OUR CENTURY FROM WAKING UP”
President Erdogan said:

Turkey is not going to put the same category with the countries of the most remote corners of Africa, South America, we will give our best answer to success ”.
