The celebrations, which attracted the attention of the public, took on a different meaning with the ‘Flag Vigil’ ceremony launched for the first time this year. The ceremony continued in Tophane Square, where the graves of Osman Gazi and Orhan Gazi, the founders of the Ottoman Empire, began with a moment of silence and the reading of the Turkish National Anthem. “Yesil Bursa has his own flag”
Speaking at the ceremony, the Mayor of the Metropolitan Municipality, Alinur Aktaş, recalled that Bursa has hosted different civilizations with its 8,500 years of history and that it is a city that stands out as an important social, cultural and commercial center. Mayor Alinur Aktaş, who said that it was a city that was subjected to sieges in many periods of history and wanted to be taken, declared that the siege of Bursa started by Osman Gazi was ended by Orhan Gazi in 1326.
Stating that Ottoman history began to be written in every sense from this date, President Aktaş said: “The Ottomans formed the foundations of a civilization in Bursa, which they conquered, inch by inch. Wherever we enter Bursa today, we find traces of the settlement period. However, the years of occupation of many cities in our country exactly 100 years ago lived in Bursa, the city of history, culture and natural beauties. The invading commander first destroyed the sultan’s tombs at Muradiye. When he arrived at Tophane, he did the same damage, insulted and disrespected the sarcophagi of Osman Gazi and Orhan Gazi. The occupation of Bursa entered the agenda of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey on July 10, 1920. A black veil known as “Pûşide-i Siyah” was placed on the seat of the Assembly on the instructions of Gazi Mustafa Kemal. This cover remained there until Bursa survived the enemy occupation. 2 years, 2 months and 2 days of captivity were completed. Bursa’s liberation was celebrated throughout the country with great displays of joy. Bursa’s release was announced to the entire country with a short but significant telegram from Ankara; He said: “September 11, 1922, the green Bursa has its red flag.”
“A Deeply Ingrained State Tradition: Flagship Watch

Ottoman and his son Orhan Gazi. .
With this in mind, Mayor Aktaş stated that they exchanged ideas with the relevant authorities regarding the commissioning of the sanjak guard, which signifies respect for the spiritual spirit of the Ottoman Empire and is a deeply ingrained state tradition, saying: “ We held meetings to conduct a starboard watch in the area where the Osman Gazi and Orhan Gazi graves are located. As is known, the vigil of the banner is continuous and sacred. It is a seizure in which it is necessary to die if necessary, for the sake of protection. I would like to thank Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu, Governor Yakup Canbolat, Gendarmerie Commander General Arif Çetin and Bursa Gendarmerie Commander Brigadier General Hakan Saraç for their support in this regard. In the period from the conquest of Bursa to its liberation, I remember with mercy our ancestors who dedicated and sacrificed their lives to leave these lands to us. Commemorate those who contributed to this city from Osman Gazi to Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk with mercy and gratitude. I wish the 98th anniversary of the liberation of our Bursa to be beneficial ”.
The Deputy Commander of the Provincial Gendarmerie, Colonel Servet Yeğit, announced that Osman Gazi’s Respect Watch Team was established within Bursa Provincial Gendarmerie Command to carry out the surveillance.
Saying that the vigil of silence will be carried out faithfully to the historical rituals and language of the time and includes practices that will keep the spirit of ‘Alp’ alive, Yeğit said: “It will carry the signs of sovereignty within the scope of respect for the spiritual spirit of the Ottoman Empire. The Alps, who will enter the guard zone under Alpbaş, will take guard by kissing the red flag. Unless the sky falls at the top and the ground is pierced at the bottom, how long will they keep looking, adhering to Allah, the Qur’an, the fatherland, the flag and the pusat under the shadow of our red flag, until explode in the face ”.
After the speeches, the “Banner Watch” began. Upon entering the square accompanied by the war drum, the Alps took the guard posts under the command of Alpbaş.
