The National Administration of Medicine, Food Technology and Health of Argentina (ANMAT) approved the use of “hyperimmune horse serum”, which is based on antibodies produced by horses and is effective in the treatment of new types of coronavirus (Covid-19 ), in patients with severe and moderate Covid-19. it gave.
In a written statement from ANMAT, it was indicated that the serum developed under the leadership of the Argentine biotechnology company Inmunova Biotech gave positive results in the 2nd and 3rd phase experiments, which showed that it reduced the mortality rate in seriously ill patients with Covid-19 by 45 percent.
In addition, it was found that the rate of hospitalization in intensive care decreased by 24 percent and the need for respiratory devices decreased by 36 percent in patients who received treatment.
In the experiments carried out in 19 hospitals and clinics in the country, 242 moderate and severe Covid-19 patients between 18 and 79 years of age participated, and the treatment began within 10 days, beginning with the symptoms of the patients who tested positive for Covid-19.
It was also stated that the experiments were sent to an international scientific journal to verify the results.
The drug, whose full name is “hyperimmune anti-SARS-CoV-2 (INM005)”, is obtained by injecting the protein into the surface of Covid-19 in an amount that does not harm horses and processing the antibodies produced by the horses against the virus.
Clinical trials of the serum ended on December 2 and were submitted to ANMAT for approval.
