Multi-profession chambers come after multi-bar association

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan made a remarkable statement about professional organizations while criticizing the Turkish Medical Association at the meeting of his party’s TBMM group.

Erdogan, Turkey needed to solve the problem of a professional organization that has now become unsustainable, emphasizing that twisted structure, he said:

* We have taken an important step in solving the problems related to the bar associations with the legal reform that we did in the previous period. Can you imagine, especially the Turkish Medical Association (TTB), they bring someone from the terrorist organization and put him in front of the TTB. Since when can those who have been involved in terrorism take over a major organization like the Medical Association? The name of this is not a democratic approach, it is the phenomenon of terrorist organizations taking over non-governmental organizations.

* The steps we have taken in health are obvious, one of the areas in which this government is most successful is health. It is not acceptable to stand up to this government, which has made investments that it has not seen in its history with all its physical infrastructure and still behaving ugly. We are living a very different period with our city hospitals, education and research hospitals and all hospitals to the most remote corner. They don’t fulfill their duties here, but they do this insult if it’s disrespectful and insulting.

“THEY ARE OPERATING AGAINST THE CONSTITUTION”

* How will we deliver to our patients, how will we seek their healing? Is this expected of the terrorist? For this reason, the problems in other professional organizations, especially TTB, have reached an intolerable level. As is known, professional organizations are legal entities that have the characteristics of public institutions that operate in accordance with article 135 of our Constitution. The same constitutional article definitively establishes that professional organizations cannot operate outside the purposes of their establishment, leaving no room for discussion. In the continuation of this article, it is stipulated that the organs of professional organizations that operate outside their aims can be removed by judicial decision.

* TTB and some professional organizations like it are clearly unconstitutional. The directorates of these professional organizations are far from representing all the professionals concerned. We have to do the same work in TTB and other professional associations that is done in the multiple bar association system. I believe that as a Popular Alliance, we will continue our work on this issue with success. These professional organizations, which have been controlled by small but organized cliques for many years, deviated from their founding goals not only in representation but also in practice.

* The governing bodies of some of these organizations have become bastions of ideological perversions or interests of narrow groups. It cannot be the duty of a professional organization to defend any terrorist organization that has been involved in all malice, from the ruthless killing of people, the burning of forests, the kidnapping of children to the rape of women. It is not the duty of a professional organization to glorify a brutal regime that murdered its own people in Syria and the terrorist organization that acts with it. It is not the duty of a professional organization to try to discredit the operations of its own state to secure its borders. “
