Mink coronavirus alarm! Covid-19 vaccine candidates are in danger

It has been reported that around 15-17 million farm-grown minks in Denmark will be destroyed after the coronavirus (Kovid-19) is detected to be mutated in animals.

At a press conference, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said: “The mutation may pose a risk that future (coronavirus) vaccines will not be as effective as they should be. “All minks must be euthanized.”

MUTATION AFFECTS EXISTING VACCINE CANDIDATES

Health officials also concluded that the mutated virus “is not blocked by antibodies to the same degree as the normal virus.” “Studies show that mutations can affect existing Covid-19 vaccine candidates. This is a threat to the development of coronavirus vaccines. Therefore, it is important that we make a national effort,” said the Minister of Health. Danish Magnus Heunicke.

Transmission of the coronavirus to minkes was previously found on mink farms in Spain and the Netherlands, 100,000 minks in the Spanish region of Aragon, and tens of thousands of minks in the Netherlands were euthanized in July.

In 2019, DKK 4.9 billion (approximately Lire 6.5 billion) were exported in mink fur. Mink fur exports represent 3.9% of the total exports of the Danish economy. It was announced that the main customers for Denmark’s mink fur are China and Hong Kong.
