Minister Selçuk: There is nothing to worry about our schools in İzmir

Ziya Selçuk, Minister of National Education, made observations in the area of ​​the earthquake in Izmir. Selçuk visited the People’s Republic of Azerbaijan 100. In a statement to members of the press here, Minister Selçuk offered his condolences to citizens who lost their lives in the earthquake and to relatives of God’s mercy. Stating that search and rescue efforts continue day and night, Minister Selçuk said: “Every effort is being made to ensure that there are no interruptions in the provision of all kinds of needs for our citizens. All of our efforts are to reach our citizens under the rubble safely. There is a great mobilization here, ”he said.

Noting that approximately 850,000 students are educated in a total of 3,600 schools in İzmir, Minister Ziya Selçuk said: “We have no harm in our schools where our students study. There is slight damage to 139 of our schools. Action will be taken in this regard. In a short time like 15 minutes, it was possible to determine what the situation is in our school, what kind of damage there is and collect them in a pool. I can clearly say that there is nothing to worry about in our schools, ”he said.

Noting that inspection studies in schools continue, Minister Selçuk said: “In our 139 lightly damaged schools, detailed analyzes are made of all small-scale damage, some cracks or some signs that are seen on the walls. All preparations for the necessary repair work have been completed. We did not have any problems with our schools in Izmir. Our provincial and district school crisis response teams and psychosocial support teams play an active role in this process. A team of 53 people also supports search and rescue efforts in the field.

“THE PROVISIONAL GIVEN TO EDUCATION CAN BE REVISED”

Recalling that education in schools was suspended for a week, Minister Selçuk said: “This period can be revised depending on the situation. In this environment, our children, teachers, and parents need psychosocial support. Our specialists and psychosocial support teams are prepared and working to improve some mental problems after this crash. “While these services seem like secondary support in such situations, we find them very valuable in not having a negative impact on the mental life of our children in the medium and long term.”

“WE CARE VERY MUCH THAT OUR CHILDREN FEEL THEY ARE SAFE”

Stating that work in play therapy and some educational activities continue to eliminate the anxiety and fear that children experience due to the earthquake in İzmir, Minister Selçuk said: “We are very concerned that our children feel safe together with their peers. . Our 250 psychological counselors are in the field to provide psychosocial support. Today we accompany here the work of our expert colleagues. We wanted to determine if they needed it or not. We saw this about the earthquake in Izmir; The evacuation of the buildings is very important, we owe a debt of gratitude to the administrators and teachers of our school. 110 THOUSAND TEACHERS RECEIVED TRAINING ON EARTHQUAKE

Emphasizing the importance of disaster education, Minister Selçuk said:

“Once again we understood it; Disaster education for our teachers is very important. We want to benefit from the highest experience in the world in this regard. We are focusing on the school-based disaster education program. A great team of ours was formed in Japan. Trainings continue at the point of delivering this training package to all teachers through trainers. 110 thousand teachers received training in the first place. Our experts trained in Japan have trained 140,000 more teachers and continue. They not only receive these trainings, they receive trainings in various fields on platforms. Our main work as educators and teachers is just beginning. We have a lot to do with our psychosocial support teams regarding the education of our students. We have experience in this regard. Regardless of what we have done before in disasters like floods and earthquakes, it is our obligation and duty to provide the psychosocial support, materials and supplies that all our children, parents and teachers need when transferring our experiences here. The crisis office that we set up in Ankara and Izmir controls them. We are here. We are working to take all necessary precautions. Our citizens must be safe, let them trust us. “We are working with our governor and our administrators on how to conduct school-related studies more thoroughly.”
