NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg held a press conference after the first day of the NATO Defense Ministers Meeting to be held today and tomorrow via video conference.

In announcing the decisions made at the end of the first day, Stoltenberg emphasized the solidarity of the NATO countries. Secretary General Stoltenberg stressed that NATO is determined to maintain its superiority in all areas, such as land, sea, air, cyber and space.

Stoltenberg also announced that NATO Defense Ministers have decided to establish a new NATO Space Center at Allied Air Command in Ramstein, Germany.

Emphasizing the link between strong armies and resistant societies, the Secretary General noted that NATO plays an important role, including setting minimum standards of resistance for allies.

Stoltenberg said the ministers agreed to strengthen the allies’ commitment to resilience when NATO leaders meet next year.

Stoltenberg stated that progress is still being made towards a fairer distribution of burden in the Alliance. “ 2020 will be the sixth year in a row that European allies and Canada have increased defense spending, and this year it will grow by 4.3 percent in real terms, ” Stoltenberg said.

The NATO Defense Ministers will continue their talks tomorrow as part of their meeting on the second day. The missions to Afghanistan and Iraq are expected to be on the second day’s agenda. (İHA)
