‘He was an honorary student’
Dean of Selcuk University School of Medicine Prof. Dr. Yavuz Selvi stated that Merve Mercan had the right to be an honor student due to the high marks she received. Recalling that Merve Mercan received treatment 45 days ago after the Covid-19 test was positive, Prof. Dr. Selvi said:
“We lost our Merve. Our pain is so great, indescribable. It cannot be expressed in words. The health community has lost a very young person. We lost our Merve. Semester 6 was our interns. 45 days ago, we had ‘Covid-19’ positively hospitalized in our hospital. We detected immunodeficiency 5 days after his hospitalization. All treatments were applied step by step down to the smallest detail. He had been struggling to survive in intensive care for about 40 days. We got lost this morning. Our Merve is a hard worker, highly respected and deserves to be an honor student due to her high grades. Our most painful loss in this process was our Merve. In this process, we have seen that her family is very patient, firm and believing. ”
Emphasizing that medical school students have no contact with coronavirus patients, Prof. Dr. Selvi said: “As is known, we do not accept students in clinics for a while, we do not make practical applications. We offer online training. However, our daughter was working in the internal medicine clinic in the early stages of her internship. In this process, our students are already prohibited from intervening and meeting patients with Covid. We don’t let them heal. We do our best to protect them. Some of the topics covered in social networks make us very sad. We are going through a very difficult process as a country. Our radiation teams are working, it is not possible to give a clear answer on where and how this virus was taken. ”
Merve Mercan’s mother, Bediha Mercan, was claimed to be also a health technician. It is reported that tomorrow the body of the young medical candidate Mercan will be buried in Istanbul.
