Prof. Dr. Tevfik Özlü was invited to the Evening Mail program with Atilla Güner on RS FM.
“I DON’T SEE THE SITUATION UNDER CONTROL”
“Do you think there is a mistake somewhere about the increasing number of cases?” Prof. Dr. Tevfik Özlü responded as follows:
* Worrying. I don’t see the situation under control. I am concerned that it may increase even more next fall.
* Both the number of serious cases and the loss of life are increasing. It seems that we are losing control of the epidemic. The pandemic period seems only to flare up again anywhere in the world, not just in Turkey.
* Theoretically, if you don’t take people out of the house, if everyone puts on the mask and looks at the distance, the epidemic will stop, but in practice there is no equivalent to what I said. From what I see as China, they have implemented it well.
“WE ARE NOT DECIDING”
* We can easily express our positive or negative opinions on health-related issues. There are very different demands and demands from many sectors.
Management somehow has to take them into account. They listen to our advice and opinions as they make their own decisions, but ultimately, we are not the decision makers.
* To this day, we have never made decisions as to whether the matches are played with a spectator, or not, or not. However, we do not have the power to make such a decision.
* They write to me on social media ‘Why didn’t you do this? Why did you make that decision? like, but we don’t have such authority. As a Scientific Committee, we cannot make a decision.
“THIS PROCESS WILL BE LONGER”
* Everyone has doubts about the opening of schools. Not only in Turkey. Schools were opened in many countries, but some were closed after problems arose. Some schools have decided to go completely online. It is not an event that can be easily decided and education is not an event that can be easily abandoned. This process will take longer. Postponing for 1 to 2 more months will not be a solution.
* There are 21 days until schools open. During this period, some classes may begin face-to-face education in a selected school in various provinces, and this process continues under supervision and serves students, teachers, school personnel and families of all and the risk of contamination increases with the opening of schools.
* When applied, things may not be as on the account, unforeseen problems may occur. We will have the opportunity to see them. Such a study gives confidence to society. The idea that I have said is a suggestion to reduce the risk after the schools open.
* If you bring 18 million students to schools on September 21, it will not be controlled, supervised or managed.
“WE ARE ALL AT RISK”
* The opening of private schools can be considered as a pilot application. It should not be thought that there is risk at school and there is no risk outside. We are all at risk. I take risks on the way to the hospital. On the way home, I ask myself every night to see if I caught a virus from someone, I brought it to my house.
