The rector of the University of Haliç, who was a deputy candidate of the AKP in the past, was appointed rector of the University of Boğaziçi. Dr. Melih Bulu’s introduction is under discussion. Many former graduates, politicians and journalists reacted to the appointment made by presidential decree.
The Board of Student Representatives of Boğaziçi University announced that it condemned the decision made against the will of the school. The Board also shared with the hashtag # KayyumRectorİdemiyorum.
On Monday, a press release was made on the South Campus of the social media account Boğaziçi Solidarity.
The group also announced that they will boycott online classes on Monday.
DEVA Party leader Ali Babacan also shared a message with the same label, saying that “freedom and productivity cannot be achieved by appointing administrators.”
With the same appointment decree, the Rector of Pamukkale University, the Rector of Antalya Bilim University, the Rector of Beykoz University and the Rector of Çağ University also changed.
Who is Melih Bulu?
Bulu, who was appointed rector of the University of Haliç on January 17, 2020, was appointed rector of the University of Boğaziçi before the end of a year.
Bulu graduated from the Middle East Technical University, Department of Industrial Engineering in 1992, and completed his master’s and doctoral studies at Boğaziçi University, Department of Business Administration.
Based on his experience at Haliç University, he worked at TUSAŞ as a project engineer in the CASA, Atak Helicopter and F-16 programs.
Bulu began his full-time academic career in 2009 and served as the founding rector of Istinye University. The rectory of Boğaziçi University will be Bulu’s third duty at this level.
Bulu, who did not comment on the appointment, made a change to his Twitter profile showing his new position.
