In Lake Sapanca, where 90% of the drinking water needs of Sakarya and 15% of Kocaeli are covered, the water level is decreasing day by day due to the drought. According to measurements made by the Sakarya Water and Sewerage Administration (SASKI), the water level in the lake decreased from 32.50 to 30.34 meters. On some beaches in the Sapanca district, the water receded about 20 meters. The piers remained in the middle as the waters receded.

Recalling that the water level in Lake Sapanca dropped to 29.20 meters in 2014, Assoc. Dr. Asude Ateş said: “When we look at the current situation, we are already experiencing a drought problem. When we look at the meteorological data in 7 years, we observe that there is a transition towards dry seasons in general. This also indicated the year 2021, because we saw the last 29.20 elevations in 2014. In the drought data Turkey has decreased by 49 percent when we look at the general population. Our population and we also take into account the process of the pandemic of increasing our amount to use both. Therefore, I believe that all uses other than humanitarian should be avoided when we fall below certain level. If there are any in transmission lines, measures taken against water loss and leakage should be developed and water saving in general should be emphasized. So how can we use less water in our homes? Can we raise awareness about water in our people? How can we improve the processes related to these? Therefore, I would like to emphasize on saving water and increasing water reuse. ”
