The fire that started in the forest area of the town of Belén at 10.15 am on October 9 in the city spread to the settlement of the district due to the effect of the wind. The fire, which affected the İssume, Müftüler, Fatih and Sarımazı neighborhoods located here, subsequently damaged several neighborhoods in the İskenderun and Arsuz district. The citizens whose houses were burned and the residents of the neighborhood who lived in the risk zone were evacuated by the security forces. Although there was no loss of life in the fire, the damage assessment studies in the damaged areas began with the control of the fire last night. Agriculture and Forestry Minister Bekir Pakdemirli, who arrived in the region yesterday, stated that the fire was completely under control and that all necessary work was carried out urgently.

Mustafa Bilgili, a resident of Fatih district, said they were suddenly faced with flames during the fire and said they experienced great fear and quickly left their homes. Stating that his own house was not damaged, but that several of his neighbors’ houses were burned, Bilgili said: “No one should experience such fear. We hardly saved our lives. Our lungs burned. We try to smuggle our cars and our belongings. The effect of the wind raised the flames to the sky. The neighborhood began to flee. It was a terrible sight, ”he said.
It was learned that while the fires were completely under control in the three districts of the city, cooling studies and damage assessment were continuing.

Claiming that the fire grew suddenly with the effect of the wind, Ayıldız said: “We are thankful that we were not burned to death. We are very sorry, ”he said.
