Water levels in Istanbul’s dams began to decline after the expected rains in the summer months did not subside. According to data from the Istanbul Water and Sewerage Administration (ISKI), the occupancy rate of the dams has dropped to 35 percent as of today.
According to the precipitation analysis of the General Directorate of Meteorology, a 64 percent decrease in the average precipitation of the Marmara Region was detected in September compared to normal.
The water level of the Sazlıdere Dam, which is one of the important dams supplying drinking water in Istanbul, has dropped to 9.67 percent. The occupancy rate for this dam was measured at 44 percent in the same period last year. The difference once again revealed the severity of the drought. The area where water was drawn hundreds of meters at the Sazlıdere Dam was previously seen from the air. While the extent of the drought was revealed in the images taken, birds were seen perching in the area where the water was drawn.
The occupancy rate of other dams was measured as follows:
“Ömerli 52.14, Pabuçdere 8.19, B. Çekmece 18.12, Alibey 21.28, Terkos 37.12, Kazandere 4.09, Elmalı 30.20, Darlık 66.71, Istranca 23.25”
