The year 2020, which will likely be remembered with the coronavirus epidemic in the coming years, actually started as a historic year for the Turkish auto industry.
If you can remember, the beginning of the year in Turkey showing the expensive Cars Initiative Group (TOGG) developed after the domestic electric car manufacturers, in February, ‘Puppy Homeland’ Northern Cyprus of the Turkish Republic (TRNC) came a welcome news and Domestic electrical Cyprus. The Günsel car was presented.
Günseli, the intervener, nine months later the prototype left on its way to Turkey.
We did a small test drive with the vehicle exhibited at MUSIAD EXPO 2020 as the pre-prototype that has not yet reached the production stage, but before going into the details of this, Günsel Chairman of the Board of Directors Prof. Dr. It is useful to look at the statements of İrfan Suat Günsel.
WE WILL TAKE THE ROADS IN THE NEXT YEAR
İrfan Suat Günsel, who began his speech by explaining that producing cars is a dream for him, explained his next dream with the words “to see Günsel on the roads of Europe”.
Günseli, regarding the launch date in the electric car market they develop, “We want to start mass production at TRNC within 1 year. Immediately after this, the tool produces the LHD version for Turkey and it will start to be sold. in Turkey. Initially, the production counts for our 20 thousand units per year Our goal is to produce 30 thousand units in 2025 “, he said.
Left the door open for production in Turkey stated that Günseli, this option with the emergence of capacity needs in the coming years can be considered, he said.
Günsel, who also shared information on the price of the B-segment hatchback model called B9 displayed at the fair, said that they will determine the price of the vehicle at the lowest point of B-segment electric vehicles.
Based on the fact that TOGG was located right in front of the booth where Günsel was exhibited at the fair, we asked İrfan Suat Günsel for his opinion on TOGG.
Stating that they have not been in contact with TOGG for now, Günsel said: “In the next period, we will compete with TOGG like other electric vehicle manufacturers. We follow TOGG closely. We dream that TOGG and Günsel will become competitors like BMW and Mercedes. “.
‘TRNC MUST BE TESTED BEFORE THE WORLD’
Günsel Chairman of the Board Prof. Dr. İrfan Suat Günsel also stated that he believes that the fact that the TRNC is not recognized in the world will not constitute an obstacle in the export of the automobile.
Stating that working with companies from different countries around the world is important to them, Günsel said that they work with 800 supplier companies around the world and 350 of these suppliers are Turkish companies.
Günsel said: “I can say that everyone contributes to Günsel. Therefore, it will be in the commercial interest of the world for Günsel to hit the road. When we look at all of this, I think the fact that the TRNC is not recognized in the world will not create a disadvantage in the export of the automobile.
Noting that they are targeting TRNC to take its place on the world stage, Günsel said: “We can achieve this with the best production. We want to produce Günsel at TRNC and ship it to the world from TRNC.” I think it should look good, “he said.
Kıbrıslı Günsel displayed the design concept of its second model, J9, at its booth. Noting that they received positive feedback for this model on the SUV body, İrfan Suat Günsel stated that they wanted to start production of the J9 within 2 years and that they wanted to stay true to the prototype design as much as possible during the production phase.
SOFTWARE OWNED BY TURKISH ENGINEERS
Günsel Chairman of the Board Prof. Dr. After the explanations of İrfan Suat Günsel, let’s move on to the B9 model developed by the company.
Unlike other models in its segment, the model, which can be defined as a city car in terms of its dimensions, nods to coupé vehicles with its aggressive lines and frameless doors.
When we shift to the right-hand drive of the prototype vehicle developed for the roads of Cyprus, we see that the coupe atmosphere continues inside, with its low sitting position and sports seats with strong side bolsters.
The use of gear buttons instead of the gear stick on the console has provided significant space for the car, whose interior volume is already limited due to its dimensions.
While there are no physical buttons inside except for the shift buttons, a large multimedia screen covering the center console is used for all vehicle functions. On this screen, all vehicle controls can be touched, including the air conditioning.
The software behind the multimedia screen and the full digital screens belongs to Günsel engineers.
The Günsel B9’s 140 kW electric motor makes its power felt from the first step on the accelerator pedal.
The fact that the vehicle, which reaches 100 kilometers in 8 seconds, does not hear any noise from the electrical parts and from the outside environment, is a plus point.
It should be noted that the car, which can travel 350 kilometers on a single charge, can be charged to 80 percent in 30 minutes with its fast-charging feature. The B9’s top speed is electronically limited to 170 km / h.
SPORTS VEHICLES NOT WANTED
In terms of vehicle handling, when the center of gravity pushed down by batteries on the floor combined with the aluminum chassis and carbon fiber body parts, a driving dynamics emerged reminiscent of sports cars.
The heavy and thick steering wheel of the prototype vehicle also contributes a lot to this perception.
We learned from the Günsel engineers that there will be changes to the materials used in the interior and even the exterior design, when production starts, due to the prototype of the vehicle we are testing. However, we have received information that the aluminum chassis and carbon fiber body parts of the vehicle exhibited at the fair will also be preserved.
Furthermore, we learned from İrfan Suat Günsel himself that two different companies have started to establish the charging station infrastructure in Cyprus and one of these companies is Zorlu Energy.
Without a doubt, there are dozens of questions about TRNC’s home electric car. At this stage, we try to convey the answers we were able to get, and areas of uncertainty will be removed with the launch of the vehicle.
As a result, the fact that Günsel comes out with a B-hatchback model in the first place will undoubtedly bring a relatively affordable 100% electric car to market. The inclusion of sporty details in the design and handling of this model will appeal to both those who want innovative technology and drivers seeking driving pleasure.
