The journalist Can Dündar was sentenced to 5 years and 10 months in prison on the charge of “providing and disseminating confidential information on state security” for having published the documents and photographs that were to remain confidential about the suspension of the MIT trucks while he was editor-in-chief of the Cumhuriyet Newspaper.
The Court of Cassation, which overturned the decision, decided that a judgment should be passed on Dündar on the charge of “providing information that should be kept confidential for espionage purposes.”
Following the decision of the Supreme Court to break the hearing of the 14th Heavy Criminal Court in Istanbul, in which the defendant was seen again, Can Dundar attended and participated in the Republic of Turkey with the deputies of Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
UP TO 35 YEARS OF PRINTING REQUESTED
Explaining its opinion on the merits, the prosecution claimed Can Dündar’s prison sentence of 22.5 years to 35 years on charges of “espionage” and “conscious and voluntary collaboration even though he does not belong to the organization.”
While the Can Dündar trial continued, the prosecutor requested that the file that he was intended to prepare be separated by preparing the footage of the MIT truck stop in documentary format while he was abroad.
Objection rejected
The court ruled to reject defendant Can Dündar’s objection between the decision to be considered a fugitive and the seizure decision between the hearing and the decision to be sent to the 15th Istanbul High Criminal Court for review.
The court that attended and gave the defense time to present their statements against the merits opinion canceled the hearing.
