The Minimum Wage Determination Commission held its third meeting, organized by Türk-İş, in the framework of efforts to determine the minimum wage that will be valid in 2021.
At the third meeting, TURKSTAT also presented its proposals to the commission. TurkStat announced the minimum subsistence amount of a worker, which is important for the start of the minimum wage negotiations, as TL 2,792.10 for the heavy business line, TL 2,507.70 for the medium business line and TL 2,339.10 TL for the light business line.
Last year, TURKSTAT announced a worker’s monthly food expenditure at 1,940 TL for light business, 2,086 TL for medium business and 2,331 TL for heavy business.
Accordingly, TurkStat increased its proposal for the light business line by 20.56 percent, for the medium business line by 20.18 percent and for the heavy business line by 19.77 percent compared to with last year.
The 2020 minimum wage is applied as 2 thousand 324 lire with the minimum allowance for life.
HOW IS THE MINIMUM WAGE DETERMINED?
The Minimum Wage Determination Commission, made up of 15 people, determines the minimum wage. In the commission, the worker, the employer and the state wing are represented by 5 people.
The first meeting of the talks takes place at the Ministry. After two meetings organized by workers and employers, the fourth and last meeting is again organized by the Ministry.
