In recent months, teams from the Istanbul Anti-Smuggling Branch in Eyüpsultan, home of the social media phenomenon Meriç İzgi, carried out an operation, which illegally adopted a macaque monkey. In the operation, the monkey was taken from Izgi and delivered to the zoo. After this operation, the Izgi monkey, which illegally adopted animals, was again seized, and the monkey was handed over to the zoo by teams from the 1st Regional Directorate for Nature Conservation and National Parks (DKMP).
MONKEY ILLEGAL KNOWLEDGE FOR THE THIRD TIME
Social media phenomenon Meriç İzgi illegally acquired a monkey again this month. Teams from the 1st Regional Directorate for Nature Conservation and National Parks (DKMP) took action as a result of sharing their photos with the monkey they took for the third time on social media. Once the search was decided, the teams that visited Izgi’s house in Eyüpsultan yesterday seized the “macaque” monkey. The monkey was handed over to the zoo authorities after veterinary checks.
DKMP teams petitioned the prosecutor’s office to close Izgi’s social media accounts.
In custody
Social media phenomenon Meriç İzgi, who was found to feed the monkeys illegally, was arrested.
Teams from the Istanbul Smuggling Crimes Division determined that Izgi was feeding the macaque monkey, which is subject to a special permit under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Animals and Plants (CITES ), and they filmed videos with the monkey and shared it on their social media account.
Police teams carried out an operation at the home of Izgi, who was arrested twice earlier and his monkeys were captured, in Sarıyer.
While Meriç İzgi and Elif Türkan E. were arrested in the raid, the macaque monkey was also captured.
The suspect Meriç İzgi will be referred to the court within the day after his actions at the police station. Elif Türkan E. was released from the police pending trial.
The confiscated monkey was also handed over to teams from the 1st Regional Directorate for Nature Conservation and National Parks.
