Minister Koca, in his statement on his Twitter account, stated that members of the Scientific Committee of the SMA, ministry officials and associations of SMA attended the ‘Workshop on Current Treatments in SMA Disease organized by the Ministry of Health.
Koca said: “The SMA Scientific Committee referred to current scientific studies on SMA drugs and possible gene therapy that have recently come to light. The SMA Scientific Committee stated that claims that the disease is not treated and that you will die if you do not receive gene therapy until age 2 are unfounded. As part of the gene therapy application procedure, it is necessary to suppress the immune system for at least 1 month, and this process can take up to 1 year , especially in some patients with high weight, NGOs and families are informed ”, he said.
