The 1st stage of the entrance exam to the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Marmara with a special talent ended last Saturday night. Students and parents who verified the results on the university’s website were in for a huge shock the next day. Some of the students announced on the website as successful on Saturday found out that they could not pass the exam the next day. The University of Marmara apologized by making a statement that the incident was a technical error. Students and parents reacted on social media.
‘THE PSYCHOLOGY IS BROKEN’
Barış Şengün, father of Güneş Şengün, one of the victims of the incident, said: “The University of Marmara applies a two-stage examination system to take you to departments such as painting, fashion design and ceramics. Based on the results of the first exam, it becomes clear in which departments the student can enter the oral interview. I was writing 100 points in front of my daughter’s profile and it was said that I was successful. I also took a screenshot for memory. The next day we saw the phrase ‘undeclared’. They say there was a technical error, but I don’t think so. My daughter has been crying for days. They play with the psychology of children. I filed a complaint with the Rectorate ”, he said.
‘THIS SITUATION IS VERY SUSPICIOUS’

Having experienced the same situation, İrem Özdemir’s father, Kadir Özdemir, said that they found the incident suspicious and said: “My daughter was entitled to an interview according to the announced list. Then they see that the list has been removed and a new list has been created. In the second list, we saw that my daughter did not qualify for the painting department interview, but only for traditional crafts. They say systemic error, but I find this situation very suspicious ”.
