He was born in Istanbul on July 2, 1945. He is the son of the Turkish classical music composer Münir Nurettin Selçuk and the theater artist Şehime Erton. He started playing the piano at age five and gave his first concert at seven. He graduated from Galatasaray High School. He also attended the piano department of the Istanbul Municipal Conservatory. Orhan Veli sang songs composed by Attila İlhan and poems by Nazım Hikmet. In 1976, he founded the Istanbul Chamber Orchestra and the Center for Contemporary Music, where he trained his own students. He worked for 10 years at the Ankara Art Theater, composed for the Bilgesu Erenus play “Nereye Payidar”, composed the music for “Sakıncalı Piyadesi” by Uğur Mumcu, and also “804 İşçi”, “Ferhat ile Şirin”, “Şeyh Bedrettin Epic “Made the soundtracks for the plays”, “Tak-Tik”, “Little Adam What Has Been You”, “Nickname Goncagül” and “Galilei-Galileo”. He also composed background music for films like “Sarıpınar 1914”, “Three Istanbul”, “Cahide”, “A Season in Hakkari”.
He received the title of State Artist awarded by the Ministry of Culture in 1998.
