In cargo, which is one of the sectors that shines in the pandemic, while November was going well, now the New Year movement began. Although the sector has recently stood out as a store of employment, 20 thousand people were employed.
The president of Turkey’s Association of Transport, Courier and Logistics Operators (Karidia), Aslan Kut, said that the shipping sector since the beginning of the pandemic has taken a vital role in accessing people’s needs. Kut, stating that they provide uninterrupted service with great devotion taking the precautions of sector employees, said:
“In this process, they have begun to develop new business models to increase e-commerce shipments. Mini and macro centers to shorten the delivery process, as well as the current cargo distribution, opened branches in Turkey. Technological investments were accelerated to guarantee customer satisfaction and increase the quality of service. The business courier model that delivers cargo with its own vehicles has been expanded. Studies on different delivery models continue. “
November without problems
Noting that they had a quiet November, when three shopping festivals were held, Kut said:
“Turkey is very high compared to the level of development of the maritime sector in many countries. Delivery times in the US increase to 25 days during campaign periods like Legend Friday, we deliver in a few days. The rapid development of online shopping over the years causes an increase in the number of freight company transactions. To respond to the growing trend of online shopping, companies have accelerated their capacity growth and technology investments. Our companies are prepared to experience the intensity of the New Year in the continuation of the November campaigns by making operational planning ”.
The volume is increasing
Noting that the sector has recently become a warehouse of employment, Aslan Kut continued as follows:
“Approximately 130 thousand people are employed in the sector. Approximately 20,000 additional jobs have been created in parallel with the recent cargo volume increase. Furthermore, around 5,000 people joined the system with applications such as business messaging. We believe that this number will increase exponentially in the next period. “
Preparation of public spaces
Aslan Kut, who expressed that the number of deliveries made to individual buyers has recently increased due to e-commerce purchases, said: “Unfortunately, all e-commerce setbacks are billed to shippers, because the buyer knows the cargo. . “Our goal is to work as a public space to break this negative perception and explain the importance of our work.”
Companies build their own fleets
E-commerce peaked in the pandemic. Daily delivery increased by 50 percent. With the increase in turnover, customer complaints about on-time delivery increased. The number of companies that established their own cargo fleet increased. E-commerce giants Trendyol, Hepsiburada, and Amazon have established their own charging infrastructure. Boyner and Morhipo, Boyner Express and Domino’s are also preparing to establish their own fleet. There are also new initiatives in fast delivery.
The neighbors will be the custodians
Aslan Kut said they are working on alternative delivery methods: “The pilot applications are carried out at points like gas stations, craftsmen in our neighborhood and safe deposit boxes. We are planning to include housewives in the system soon. In the regions where housing is concentrated, we are working so that housewives take the burden as custodians. A change in legislation is required for this practice, which aims to contribute to the domestic economy of women and facilitate childbirth processes. Our negotiations continue, we are hopeful that the legal basis will be established ”.
