There has been a new development regarding the flexible working clauses of the omnibus bill, the discussions of which continue in the General Assembly of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey. Following the joint announcement by the presidents of TÜRK-İŞ, HAK-İŞ and DİSK last week about their withdrawal, the president of TÜRK-İŞ, Ergün Atalay, met with the vice presidents of the AK Party and the MHP Group today. After the meeting, it was decided to withdraw Articles 33 and 37 of the proposal.
Muş announced that after the meeting with the presidents, they decided to delete articles 33 and 37 on flexible work. Muş spoke as follows:
– We received the demands of the unions and, in our evaluations, the vice-presidents of the MHP Group met with the president of MHP, Devlet Bahçeli, and we met with our president. According to your instructions, we will remove 33 and 37 from the text of the article in order to study it in more detail.
Article 33 of the proposal stipulates the employment of people under 25 and over 50 with a fixed-term contract, while article 37 stipulates that young people under 25 years of age work less than 10 days a month, without paying the premium insurance required for retirement.
Discussions continue on the withdrawal of Article 21 from the proposal, which provides for a tax exemption for one year for those who change from full-time to part-time work.
Workers working on fixed-term contracts would not have the right to return to work with notice or severance pay. Failure to pay retirement insurance premiums if young people under 25 years of age work less than 10 days a month was also criticized, alleging that it would make it difficult for young people to retire.
“WE ARE SATISFIED WITH THE RESULT”
Ergün Atalay, in a statement he made to HABERTÜRK, stated that he had been discussing the issue with AK Party and government officials for 15 days and said that they secured the removal of two items in their conversations last night.
TÜRK-İŞ President Ergün Atalay stated that Article 21 on Flexible Work, which provides tax breaks for 12 months for those who change from full-time to part-time work, will be removed from the offer. Therefore, the flexible working arrangement will be eliminated.
Atalay said that they always try to keep the issue on the agenda and are satisfied with the results, although their work has been neglected from time to time due to the Izmir earthquake and events in Karabakh. Atalay thanked President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and MHP President Devlet Bahçeli.
HAK-İŞ Vice President Osman Yıldız also met with AK Party Group Vice President Mehmet Muş and MHP Group Vice President Erhan Akçay and with Levent Bülbül in addition to Atalay.
Yıldız said: “We held a meeting here with the vice presidents of the AK Party and the MHP Group. Of course, the thanks are from them, I don’t know how they will evaluate it, but we raise our request again. We are pleased that this process of dialogue has reached such a positive point. We do not know exactly how the General Assembly traffic works. However, we believe that they will evaluate and withdraw elements related to flexibility there, ”he said.
