A free trade agreement was signed between Turkey and the United Kingdom. During the signing ceremony, Trade Minister Ruhsar Pekcan and British International Trade Minister Liz Truss made statements.
Notes from the statements of the Minister of Commerce, Ruhsar Pekcan;
* Today, we live in a Turkey-UK relationship in terms of an important and historic day. Free Trade Agreement will be the best guarantee of the development of our trade between Turkey and the United Kingdom in the next period.
* Without the agreement, approximately 75 percent of our exports to the UK would face a tax burden, we would have a loss of approximately $ 2.4 billion. This risk is already gone.
We need to protect the possibilities and the benefits. The UK ranks second after Germany. The agreement will enter into force on January 1, 2021. There will be no loss of time. We are also taking steps to expand the agreement to include areas such as investment and services. We will deal with mutual problems.
* In a period when uncertainty and risks are intense, it is very important to complete our agreement. The agreement includes all industrial and agricultural products. I wish the historic and critical agreement to be beneficial and auspicious. It is a new and very special milestone. It is the result of the common understanding and will between our governments. We will continue to take steps toward empowerment.

Notes from the British Minister for International Trade Liz Truss;
* Thank you very much, Mr. Pekcan. I am very happy that you have signed the Free Trade Agreement. United Kingdom last year with 11.6 billion dollars of exports made is the case of Turkey, the second largest country.
* As a trading country 2, services were received very quickly. I think we will gain a great momentum. I think we can do many things. We think the dynamism of Turkey and the UK’s global service providers are very helpful. Iron and steel are important in the automotive field. For consumers, it will allow them to buy quality products.
* It will allow consumers to buy decent products at decent prices in agriculture. Within the scope of the agreements we have concluded with 62 countries and the EU, our aim is to accelerate trade and grow. In fact, we open a new page.
