British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said in his speech to Parliament today that the latest data revealed that COVID-19 is spreading very rapidly in the UK.
Johnson stated that the new type of corona virus detected earlier this week caused the virus to spread faster than expected.
Johnson claimed that the new strain detected was 70 percent more contagious than the old strain of the virus and stressed that the government should take action.
Johnson said that due to the increase in cases, local containment measures will be intensified in the eastern and southeastern regions of the country.

THE LEVEL OF LIMITATION IS INCREASED
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said new restrictions will be imposed in south-east England, London and eastern England. Johnson said the highest level of local restriction currently in effect in these regions will be raised from level three to level four, which is a new level of restriction.
Stating that all unnecessary retail stores, gyms and hair salons will be closed in regions where tier four will apply, Johnson said that people in these regions should work from home if possible and should stay home with limited exceptions.

THE CHRISTMAS RULES CHANGED
While it was planned to relax the restrictions for the Christmas holidays in England, it was expected that the travel restrictions would be lifted and 3 different members of the household would be allowed to meet. Johnson said the previously declared decision to relax the restrictions between December 23 and 27 for the Christmas holidays needs to be reconsidered.
Prime Minister Johnson said the relaxation would be limited to Christmas Day and the meeting of two households instead of 5 days, adding that regions at level four should not be combined with other households. Johnson said the expanded measures are aimed at “staying local.”
