The flow of commercial gas has started on the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), the last part of the southern gas corridor, which transfers Azerbaijani gas to European markets.
The post on SOCAR’s Twitter account included the following statements regarding the start of TAP’s commercial activity:
“Today, TAP, the last part of the Southern Gas Corridor, started to transport gas from Azerbaijan commercially. Azerbaijani gas reached the European market for the first time in history through a direct pipeline connection.”

TAP, together with the Trans Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP) and the South Caucasus Gas Pipeline, forms the European leg of the Southern Gas Corridor, a $ 40 billion value chain.
Azerbaijan’s Shah Deniz 2 field of gas extracted to Europe was built to deliver TAP, TANAP was linked to the border between Turkey and Greece. TAP was completed on October 13, after 4.5 years of construction.
TAP is expected to transport 10 billion cubic meters of gas annually to Italy (8 kilometers), crossing Greece (550 kilometers), Albania (215 kilometers) and the Adriatic Sea (105 kilometers).
BP, SOCAR and Snam each control 20 percent of TAP, while Fluxys owns 19 percent, Enagas 16 percent and Axpo 5 percent.
