The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) announced that it has started putting uranium hexafluoride (UF6) gas into advanced IR-2m uranium enrichment centrifuges installed at Iran’s underground facilities in Natanz.
This is one of the steps Iran violated the 2015 nuclear deal. Under the 2015 nuclear deal, Iran was only allowed to stockpile enriched uranium with first-generation IR-1 machines and operate them in an underground facility. In the previous IAEA report, it was claimed that Iran installed IR-2m machines underground.
In the report presented by the IAEA to member states, “On November 14, 2020, the Agency confirmed that Iran began placing UF6 in the recently installed 174 IR-2m centrifugation stage at the Fuel Enrichment Plant (FEP) in Natanz “.
12 TIMES INCREASED IN 2 YEARS
According to the International Atomic Energy Agency, the level of enriched uranium has risen 12 times the limit allowed by the 2015 agreement since Iran exited the agreement in 2018.
According to the IAEA report, the amount of enriched uranium found in Iran reached 2,443 kilos. Under the agreement, Iran could only hold 203 kilos.
