HOW IS FASTING IN CANDIL?
Just as it is accepted to have the intention in the heart, rising for sahur is accepted as having the intention to fast. It may mean ‘I made Allah’s intention to fast for your sake’.
The intention is one of the conditions of the fast. An involuntary fast is not valid. If it is enough to have the intention in the heart, it is mandub to express the intention with language. Getting up for the sahur to fast is also considered an intention.
The fast of Ramadan, the time to fast on certain days and useless fasts, the time before the sun sets and peaks the next day. Otherwise, the intention during the day would not be allowed (Kasani, Badayi ‘, II, 85). For these fasts, the absolute intention in the form of “fast tomorrow” is sufficient. However, it is more virtuous to make an intention at night and fast in the form of “the fast of Ramadan tomorrow.” It is necessary to make a separate intention for each day of Ramadan (Mevsili, al-İhtiyâr, I, 397, 400).
