The fire occurred around 04:30 a.m. on the third floor of the Department of Mental Health and Diseases of the Cebeci Hospital of the Ankara University Faculty of Medicine in Mamak. Mehmet Beşparmak, who was treated in the isolation room on the third floor of the building, set his room on fire for an unknown reason. As flames surrounded the room in no time, the father, Kadir Beşparmak, who was accompanying his son to the hospital, reported the situation to the fire brigade. After the warning, many firefighters, health teams and police were dispatched to the scene.
He lost his life in the room that caught fire
While the firefighters took control of the fire in a short time, with the help of the stairs they evacuated the other patients who were trapped in the building. During the examination at the hospital, Mehmet Beşparmak, who started the fire, was found dead in his bed. Two people injured in the fire were taken to the hospital in ambulances after the first intervention of the medical teams. The police launched an investigation into the incident.
