Atambayev, who was released from prison by his supporters during the protests, has been arrested again today by security forces.

CANCELED ELECTION RESULTS

Following the parliamentary elections held in Kyrgyzstan with the participation of 16 parties, members and supporters of 12 political parties that failed to cross the threshold protested the results in the capital Bishkek. The Kyrgyz Central Election Commission canceled the election results after the clashes.

Protesters who took to the streets in Kyrgyzstan clashed with government supporters.

During the incidents, protesters went to the State National Security Committee prison where political prisoners were housed and released former President Almazbek Atambayev, former Prime Minister Sapar Isakov and former MPs Sadir Caparov and Ravşan Ceenbekov.

GOVERNED BY CORRUPTION

Former President Almazbek Atambayev, who was on trial on corruption charges against him in Kyrgyzstan, was sentenced to 11 years and 2 months in prison in the trial that concluded in June.

Atambayev, 63, detained since August 2019, served as president between 2011 and 2017.
